The 1996 Census Electronic Area Profiles provide a statistical overview of Canada, presenting most of the univariate census variables for various levels of geography, including the following:
- Profile of Census Metropolitan Areas and Census Agglomerations, 1996 Census
- Profile of Census Divisions and Subdivisions, 1996 Census
- Profile of Federal Electoral Districts (1996 Representation Order), 1996 Census
- Profile of Census Metropolitan Areas, Tracted Census Agglomerations and Census Subdivisions, 1996 Census
Note
1 The data for the census variables were collected from a 20% sample of the population, with the exception of the data for the Age, Sex and Marital Status variables, which were collected from the total population.
2 Users of the 1996 Electronic Area Profile data should be aware that not all 1996 Census geographic areas or counts are comparable to those of other censuses because of changes made to the areas and to census concepts or classification systems. Changes in census geographic areas can be attributed to modifications in geographic boundaries, names or concepts. Changes to census counts can be caused by modifications to census concepts which relate to variables, such as the modification made to the family concept in 2001.
