Description for Figure 2.9

Figure 2.9—Population and labour force status components, 2021 Census—25% sample data.

Figure 2.9 presents the population aged 15 years and over in private households and the labour force status components in the 2021 Census.

This figure is divided into multiple parts: labour force and not in the labour force, the experienced labour force and inexperienced labour force, and employed and unemployed.

The experienced labour force category consists of employed people (including both civilians and military) who worked during the reference week or were absent from their job or business during the entire reference week, as well as unemployed people who last worked in 2021 or 2020 and were on temporary lay-off, were due to start a new job in four weeks or less, or were looking for work.

The inexperienced labour force category consists of unemployed people who last worked before 2020 or never worked and were due to start a new job in four weeks or less or were looking for work.

The not in the labour force category is broken down into four components: last worked in 2021, last worked in 2020, last worked before 2020 and never worked.
