Earnings and Incomes of Canadians Over the Past Quarter Century, 2006 Census: Earnings
Overall trends
This section focuses on the median earnings of paid workers and self-employed people who were employed full time, for the full year in 2005. That is, they were aged 15 and over and worked 49 to 52 weeks during 2005, for 30 hours or more per week.
According to the 2006 Census, 9.3 million persons aged 15 and over were employed full-time, for the full year in 2005.
Median earnings are earnings levels that divide the population into two halves, i.e., half of the population receiving less than this amount, and half, more.
All dollar figures are expressed in terms of their value, or purchasing power, in 2005. This is referred to in the report as '2005 constant dollars.'
